Museum of Art Rudana Bali

A great nation is a nation that can place and appreciate its own works. Inspired by that expression, Nyoman Rudana, built a painting museum at Peliatan Village, Ubud. With his experience as an employee of a gallery in Sanur and also with his flexibility to interact with foreign tourists, Rudana expressed his desire to his wife, Ni Wayan Olastini, to build a museum. And his wife was very happy with the idea.

The Neka Art Museum Bali

Founded in 1982 by Suteja Neka, a former schoolteacher and patron of the arts, this museum is a good introduction to the Balinese school. Housed in several pavilions, works are labeled in English and provide informed access to rural traditions and modern movements on the island and locally in Ubud. The collection features the work of the Dutch-born Indonesian artist Arie Smit, as well as contemporary works both local and from abroad. Don't miss the view of the Campuhan Gorge from the Smit Pavilion -- you can see what inspires local artists (or get inspired yourself).

Agung Rai Museum of Art

This museum is located in Central Bali and comprises of two large buildings. It is one of the few places where one can view the works of Walter Spies. Pieces by Raden Saleh, Affandi and Sadali are also on display. All of the paintings are well labeled in English and Japanese. You should referably visit in the late afternoon, so that, when you have finished looking around, you can take in a traditional dance. On the grounds, you will find two cafes and a low-priced bookstore.

The Provincial Museum of West Nusa Tenggara is located on Jalan Panji Tilar Negara. This museum holds a valuable collection that features the characteristics of West Nusa Tenggara. The Provincial State Museum of West Nusa Tenggara is located in the South Ampenan area, about 7 kilometres from the centre of Mataram City. In the front section of the museum is the Lobby Hall with its modern architecture, inspired by Berugak. Berugak being the traditional Lombok building that functions as storage for rice. Usually, the Berugak building is used when receiving guests, for cultural performances, and others. The Lobby Hall is used for the sale of admission tickets, for a deposit counter for personal belongings, and an information desk.
