  About Philippines

Located in the world's most dynamic region, the Philippines is a strategic gateway to the dynamic South East Asian market and its numerous trade opportunities. Its efficient network of international shipping and air lanes is suited for global trade.

The country's most valuable asset is its highly professional and educated human resource. Higher education is given utmost priority, and English is taught in all schools¡Xapproximately 350,000 English-speaking graduates join the country's workforce annually.

Moreover, its lush tropical environment is blessed with an abundant supply of indigenous raw materials such as bamboo, buri, rattan, shells, stones, coconut by-products, and natural fibers. These are fashioned into stylish,

Well-developed communication, transportation, business,
and economic infrastructure connect the three major
islands and foster regional growth.

The Philippines was first inhabited by the Negritos,
who crossed over to the country some 30,000
years ago from Borneo, Sumatra, and Malaya
via a land bridge. The Malayans soon followed
in successive migration waves. These people
continue to survive to this day among certain
ethnic groups such as the Aetas and Igorots.

Arab traders from Malay and Borneo introduced
Islam into the country's southern region in the
14th century and extended their influence as far
as Luzon. The first European visit (1521) to the
Philippines was led by the Portuguese explorer
Ferdinand Magellan, who claimed the islands for Spain.
The Spanish occupation was eventually followed by American
and Japanese regimes.

From this myriad of influences evolved a rich culture that's indeed a
unique blend of the East and West.

Genuine warmth and hospitality are traits best displayed by Filipinos. They are passionate individuals who live life to the fullest.
